Thanks to I-propose Nederlandsch Octrooibureau has been able to push down the costs of protection. Protecting intellectual property rights on time is essential. The initial costs of intellectual property rights are high particularly for independent designers and starters.
I-Propose has been called into existence for small-scale (starting) companies and designers who are seeking to commercialise their inventions and who might be on the lookout for partners. The I-Propose procedure has been developed by Nederlandsch Octrooibureau.
It is common knowledge that protecting intellectual property by means of patents, trademark and design registrations involves certain costs. These costs are usually charged in the initial phase of a company’s existence and therefore they may be difficult to compensate. Once a designer/inventor has found a market party and/or financial partner, usually financing the application will no longer present a problem. Nevertheless, the inventor will first need to protect his intellectual property before discussing it with other parties. To solve this problem Nederlandsch Octrooibureau has been offering designers a procedure which allows them to secure their interests in a relatively inexpensive way. Once they have done so, designers may seek out market parties or financial partners who might be able (and prepared) to provide further protection.
I-Propose is a procedure that leads to the protection of designs and ideas. It consists of putting together an intellectual property portfolio, preparing a letter including a list of all the rights and if necessary laying down these rights. In this way the designer/inventor will be perfectly familiar with the value of and the extent to which his intellectual property is protected. To future market parties, this overview will ensure the value of the product concerned.
Initial costs for preparing an I-Propose file amount to €200 exclusive of VAT (Dutch BTW).
