Roel van Woudenberg joined Nederlandsch Octrooibureau (Eindhoven) in 2007. Previously he spent over 11 years in several R&D positions at Philips Electronics. He was a system architect and project leader for various LED lighting systems at Philips Lighting. He also worked at Philips Semiconductors and Philips Research on display systems, notably in the areas of digital imageprocessing techniques and the driving of new types of displays. From 1995 to 2000 Roel was a research scientist at Philips Research studying optical recording, in particular rewritable phase change recording (disc structures and materials, recording schemes) as well as physical formats and related signal processing.
Roel is inventor and co-inventor of several dozen patents and patent applications.
Roel is specialised in system architectures, display driving and image processing, optical discs and drives, and (LED) lighting systems. His area of expertise also extends into other physics and electronics subjects. Roel works for small and medium-sized enterprises as well as multinationals.
Roel graduated from the University of Groningen (Netherlands) in 1990. He obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Amsterdam in 1995, in the field of experimental elementary particle physics. He participated with the NIKHEF team in the ZEUS experiment at DESY (Hamburg, Germany), studying high-energy electron-proton collisions at the HERA collider.
